On Saturday, Jeff Bryan and I attended a special exhibition about Ashurbanipal, considered the greatest of the Assyrian kings. It was a fascinating exhibit (if you are into the sort of thing) that showed his desire to be great and to bring peace to the world. Ironically, he seemed to have spent most of his life warring against rebels and then he seemed to die quite suddenly and his empire began to decline soon after his death. This image above was one of the final comments about him. It reminded me that no matter how much we accomplish in our life, our lives are still just a vapour and any life that is not lived for God is actually wasted. ‘…what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.’ (James 4:14)
Sunday was an amazing day as we praised God for coming and taking on flesh to save us from our sins. Thank you so much to all who invited friends and family and made the amazing food we enjoyed in the afternoon. It was very good to see several visitors in the service and not many seats full!
I am sure that this is a very busy time for all of you. Below are a few notices about what is happening in the next few weeks through our church. If you are looking to invite people to a carol service, be sure to invite them this Sunday at 11.30am as we will sing Christmas carols and I will preach on the Christmas story. Also, another opportunity to come and invite people is our Christmas Eve Carol Service at 4pm.
